Max had eye surgery yesterday. We went to the hospital at 12:30 to check in to find out that his appointment time wasn't until 2:55. So sad. We were in the waiting room from 12:30 until 3:45! So long. Luckily they had a playstation and a game cube to keep him occupied. He was so good especially having not had anything to eat or drink all day. They took him back at about 3:45 and the doctor came and found us in the waiting room at about 5:00. The doctor said that the surgery went fine and he expects the results to be what we want. For those of you who don't know... Max has esotropia which is in-ward turning of the eye. We have done numerous treatments like patching, drops and eye glasses in order to try and correct the in-ward turn and none of them have been successful... so surgery was the next option. He hasn't been using his eyes together. They are used separately, so hopefully this surgery will help him restore his binocular vision (using both eyes at the same time). After the surgery he was coming out of the anethesia and he was so totally itchy all over his body. They say that he had a reaction to morphine. He was freaking out trying to rub his eyes lips, arms, cheeks, everything! They gave him some benadryl and that made him feel better. I held him and then he fell fast asleep. We even took him to the car and put him him, went to the Game Spot bought him a new Wii game and came home, brought him in the house and layed him on the couch and still he slept. Then I sat with him on the couch until I was too tired (I have to make sure he doesn't rub his eye, so every movement he made, made me a little nervous). Then I put some arm restraints on him and put him in my bed and all the while he stayed asleep. Hooray for him doing so well. This morning I knew he was okay when upon waking up he came into the bathroom and said - "i need these things off" (talking about the arm restraints) and then promptly said - "can I play the wii?"
Here are the pictures of the event.
This is him before the Nurse Practioner came in and explained the surgery.

Getting dressed in his surgery pajamas. He didnt want to do it, but he did great!

VIDEO GAMES!! HOORAY. What would we have done without them for that long of time.

Just waiting and waiting and waiting ...

This is the wagon that they let him lay in so he could have some medicine which would make him a little sleepy before they took him in the OR. He was so funny just laying there playing his game laughing at everything.

Playing and playing and waiting and waiting...

Here he is after the surgery. He is wearing his "Wally" glasses so we could go outside. He is really sensitive to light, but I think that he slept the whole time down to the car.

Here is a picture of the eyes today. He is asking and asking to play with a friend and to play the wii. Notice he is dressed up in his dragon costume from last year making me know that he is okay and will bounce back quickly. The doctor says that the swelling and redness will decrease over the next few weeks. I will keep taking pictures to track the progress.

This is basically what he is looking like today. Love that smile! I learned the other day that you can put different color paper over the flash and it turns your picture a different color. This one has yellow in front of it. Thanks to everyone for your support!

I am so glad that all is well! Although I am a little upset at you for not telling us so we could remember sweet Max in our prayers. You need to mention these difficult things so we can all give you the love, support, and prayers that you need. Just so you know - Max's quick recovery will be a part of our prayers.
What an amazing little guy and what a great mom and dad to make sure that he wasn't scared and that now his eyes will be so much better. What a great blessing.
Love you tons,
Aunt Cathy

Thanks for the pics of Maxito in the waiting room on my phone! I'm glad you sent them so I could send positive thoughts while you waited. See you soon.
