I replied "a pencil? Can you live without it?"
He replied "No"
I replied "for today and I'll buy you a whole pack of them. 6 of them!"
He replied "I don't have any other"
I replied "Alysa probably has one"
He replied "she is probably with her friends"
I replied "I would really prefer not to drive there for a pencil. Go find Alysa"
He replied "I'll live. I found a pencil on the ground"
I replied "oh ok, i love you, have a good day."
He replied "bye. I love you."
I replied "if you really need one, I can bring it"
He replied "mom I found one on the ground."
I replied "as long as it works"
He replied "it does. Bye mom I love you."
I replied "Bye, have a good day. I love you too."
I just keep thinking of sweet Max wondering what he was going to do without a pencil, then seeing a pencil on the ground. It probably felt like such a great moment when just what he needed was there!
I don't know anything about this pencil - what it looks like, if it has an eraser, if it is full of lead, etc, but I am grateful to it today. I am grateful to the pencil that was lost and now found.
Dear Sweet pencil on the ground,
You saved me a trip to the school to give Max a pencil. Thank you for being there for Max. I appreciate you being there at the exact moment he needed you. Thank you, thank you dear pencil on the ground. You have no idea what it meant to me for you to take care of Max today. I am extremely grateful.
Love,
Emilee
