there was a day this week that the phone rang. I answered thinking it may be my dad or one of my sisters. The person on the other end said..
“Hi, this is Mrs. Pead, I am going to be Alysa’s teacher this year and I have heard through the grapevines that you would be a good person to help me.”
I said - “ok, what do you need help with?”
She said - “I heard that you are a decorator and I really need help with a wall in my classroom.”
I said - “I don’t know about decorator, but I would be willing to help you. I will come over later today and see the wall and talk to you so you can tell me what you are thinking.”
She said –“thanks so much. I will talk to you soon”.
I hung up the phone and laughed out loud. a decorator? ha. Where did this come from?!
I think about this statement that she had heard it through the grapevines.. I can’t put anything together of where this would come from.
I head to the school to see her wall and listen to the vision. She says that she wants a big smiley face for her “life is good” theme. She says that I can do whatever I want to the wall. She says that she couldn’t find paper to do the smiley face with, but I could probably use this tablecloth. She says that she knows I will do a good job because I had had some good recommendations. ha ha!
I take my materials and leave.
I get in the car and laugh again. What in the world!? I call my mom and tell her that I need her help. She says to come over and she will help me.
I take Max to football practice and head to Joann’s for some ideas and then my moms to put it into action. We cut out the smiley face. We use the lovely circle ruler for circle eyes and we draw a mouth. We lay it on the floor. It looks cute. Then my mom free hands the letters. They look lovely. We outline them with color and decide that I should do polka dots with smiles and I think it will work.
the next day… I make a few more circles. i make some smiley faces. I head to the school to hang my creation.
I lay it on the ground and the teacher is happy with it (at least I hope). I get a ladder and some sticky teacher tape and start hanging my masterpiece. Alysa is helping. I am glad.
We hang it up and the teacher says that it is wonderful. I hope that I lived up to her expectations. and I hope that everyday when Alysa goes to school, she can think of her mother – the decorator!
Thanks mom for helping me on this school project :)
