Tonight

The kids and I were having a lovely night tonight.  We ate some delicious spaghetti with baby oranges.  Then we headed to the store to buy the beloved baptism dress that Alysa has been dreaming about since we saw it on Monday.  We purchased the dress and then headed to the library.  I love the library, but it never seems to last very long.  The kids chose their 4 stories each and we used each of our cards to check them out.  Ryan aways seems to get away with more than 4 - how does that happen? Anyway... we were trying to waste a little time so Alysa could show her dress to Grandma Lori.  She wanted to so bad and I thought there was no harm in waiting for her to get home.  We got back in the car (I think that it took longer to get in and out of the car than it did to get our books), then headed to DQ for some lovely ice cream and dilly bars.  I love dilly bars.  Then we head up to Grandma Lori's house.  We were just in time to follow my mom into the garage.  Alysa was so excited to show her dress to grandma, but since we had spaghetti for dinner and ice cream with chocolate for dessert, there was no trying on this dress for grandma.  Sorry, Alysa.  We visit for a while and then it became time to go home.  We were singing our songs and getting on the freeway and I see the dreaded lights of a police in my mirror.  My instant thought was that I had run through the red light or something... then I remembered

OOPS!  I haven't got the car registered.  Oh no!

I fumble through the papers in the car searching for the insurance and old registration.  The  police officer asks me for my information and tells me that the registration is expired.  I tell him that i have been meaning to get it done, then the crack in my windshield occured and I haven't been very on top of getting it replaced.  He takes my information and waits a while until he comes back.  Lovely, I haven't had a ticket forever.  I am talking to the kids in the car and they are wondering why I am in trouble.  I tell them why and Ryan says that he only wants to go home and he hates this.  I tell him that I hate it too.  Alysa says that she is nervous and should be home sleeping.  Max doesn't say one word.  The officer comes back and hands me the dreaded ticket that should have never occured and tells me to drive home safe.  Sad night.

We start driving and the kids are nervous.  I explain to them what registration for the car is and we drive safely home.  Alysa says, "mom, good thing you weren't on your cell phone or going too fast".  I tell her that is right and I will get the registration done immediately.  We get home and get the kids in the bath and Max suddenly starts talking.  He says - Mom, that was making me nervous, I thought that you were going to go to jail".  SAD!!!  I told him that I didn't and that everything was okay and I would make sure to get the car registered.  He said okay and continued with his bath.

We read a million stories from the library and still tonight ended up being a good night despite the police officer that according to Alysa was a really nice guy.

Oh... the dreaded registration - I hate it when that happens! I think we have all been through that - you are so calm and good to explain everything to your kids. So happy that the evening ended on a good note with all of the books and such. Looking forward to seeing Alysa in her baptism dress - I can't believe that she is old enough to be baptized - AMAZING!
Love you tons,
Aunt Cathy

Ugh...I hate tickets! (Not that I've ever had one...not that I'm pretty sure I have a warrant out for my arrest in Arizona for running a red light and never paying the ticket...) A Dilly Bar sounds SO good right now.

Bummer! I am so sorry that happened to you. He should have just given you a warning and gone out to get the real bad guys!
