Daddy

Daddies are for Catching Fireflies is one of the favorite books around our house.  I have to read it to Max and Ry all of the time.  It is a lift up flap book.  It is just a simple book.  It takes a few minutes.  While reading this book, I always think that Max is just so simple, like this book.     He loves everything.  He isn’t emotional.  He is brave.  He is strong and gives the best kisses. He loves cantaloupe and licks his lips when I get it out.  He loves his “sweaty” pants.  He loves treats.  He loves pancakes and when there are left overs from the morning.  He loves stuffed animals.  He loves his little brother, even when he follows him everywhere.  He loves T-Shirts with characters on them.  He loves to "snuggle”.  He loves riding his bike and being big.    He loves kindergarten.   He loves his dad!!!   While reading this book the other night he made a few comments that I had to remember.

Daddies are for Catching Fireflies

by Harriet Ziefert

A daddy wears big shoes and pants with a belt…  (MAX says – “yep.  Our daddy does that”)

A daddy shaves and is good to smell…

A daddy tickles you feet… (MAX says - “and he plays with us”).

A daddy messes your hair.

If you say to a daddy “it’s broken,” he will try to fix it.  But sometimes a daddy can’t fix it.   (MAX says - “My dad is a fixing bike daddy”)

A daddy takes you into deep water …  and teaches you to swim.

You can climb on a daddy.

A daddy protects you from big dogs.  Nice Doggie!

A daddy answers questions.

A daddy keeps you warm.

You can lean on a daddy

A daddy goes to work and hugs you when he gets home. (MAX says - “we can’t hug our dad when he gets home, because we will get germs on us.  He has to take a shower”)

A daddy takes you to the parade. .. and gives you the best seat.

Sometimes at the end of the day, daddy puts you to bed.

He reads you a story. And falls asleep, too.  (MAX says “our dad always falls asleep”)

Good night, Daddy!

Thank you, Eric!  for being all of these things and more.    The kids and I love you and we are so glad that you are who you are.    We are lucky to have you in our lives, even if you have germs on you when you get home from work.
